Frosty Morning on the Playgroud

Yesterday was a beautiful frosty morning when I woke up so I brought my camera to school and walked around the playground when I arrived. We have ALL been enjoying the warmer weather and the return of outdoor recess!

The Book Suitcase

We have a new piece of luggage in our room! Mrs. Dent Scarcello bought us a book suitcase! The suitcase is a way for us to share our favorite books with each other. It is also a great opportunity to introduce our classmates to new books they will love! Here is how it works:

• Take the Book Suitcase home on Friday.

• Fill it up with your favorite books.

• Bring it back to school on Monday where your books will be showcased in the suitcase for the week.

• Take your books home on Friday.

We are all very excited for our turn with the suitcase. Have fun!

Our Gingerbread Girl Story

We discovered a neat new way to tell a story. Here is our Gingerbread story.

Art and Visits

Last week I added the globe you see rotating along the right side of the page. It is really cool! If you look closely, you can see red dots that mark the locations where people have checked our blog from. It also counts all the people that visit our blog. So, since last Thursday, we have had 39 visits including those from Tel Aviv, Singapore, Vancouver, Washington and Saint Paul, Alberta! If you click on the bottom-right button (circle with 4 arrows) it will take you to the RevolverMaps page with a close-up of our map and details on each hit. I encourage you to check it out!

Our latest art project was really fun! We made our version of the Kandinsky Circles. You may have seen this art printed as a poster at Ikea! First we painted the squares and then we cut out circles to layer in each square. They are all posted edge to edge on our bulletin board, it looks really neat!

Friday Agenda

We tested out a new form of our agenda message today. We thought it was pretty neat! We still did our regular agenda too.

Polar Bears and Global Warming

This week we read a story that I love, Winston of Churchill by Jean Davies Okimoto. The story lead to a conversation about Global Warming and what we can do to help the planet.
We also created this:

This Week at School

This week at school we had hot lunch. We have Jonsey's for hot lunch. We are having chicken fingers.

This week at school we had an assembly. Some of the kids in our class were talking to Miss Dent about the snow stays on the ground and Mrs. O'Coin took a picture of us for the assembly. The assembly is about stuff that you can't do.

This week at school we did a Science experiment. It was about ice cubes melting. We used a plate and a heater and an ice cube.

Gingerbread Anna

Back in December we created a life-size Gingerbread Anna! Anna is a girl in our class. We traced her, cut up the tracing and created her piece by piece. We worked in partners to design and plan a pattern for the candy. Mrs. Dent helped us bake the pieces with our partners and Mrs. Dent Scarcello bought the candy. We decorated our pieces according to our plan and then put her all together. Here is the final product!

Hello from Mexico!

Happy New Year from Mexico! Jeff and I are having a great time in Mexico. It has been hot and sunny and we have had many relaxing days by the pool. We heard it was pretty cold in Winnipeg, hopefully it is warmer when we get home tomorrow night. See you soon!
Love, Mrs. Dent Scarcello :)
