Touring Canada
We had a lot of success with our #postcardproject and learned about a lot of different communities in Canada. Now we are using that learning along with Tellagami to create a virtual tour of Canada! Each student will create a gami with 30 seconds worth of the information they got on their postcard. The full details of each location can also be seen on our Google Map of Canada.

Mrs. Turner's Environmentalists! {IBL}
This week I finished up another project with our other grade 1 class, Mrs. Turner's class. The children wrote, edited and typed their tips to help the Earth and we did an art project together using up-cycled National Geographic magazines. Then, each student created their own slide in a Haiku Deck on an iPad. We hope you can follow all these tips all year long!

Earth Day Tips {IBL}
Mrs. Kohut's class and I have wrapped up their Earth Day Tips project. As I explained in a previous post, they wrote their tips to help the Earth and we typed them together. Then we did an art project using National Geographic magazines that were donated by a community member. Finally, we created a Haiku Deck so we could show off our work beyond the school hallway. We hope you enjoy it!

Tips for Helping the Earth {IBL}
In IBL I have been working with both grade 1 classes. They wrote tips to help the Earth and we typed them together. Then we did an art project re-using some old National Geographic magazines that were donated to the school by a community member. The children used blue and green pieces from the magazines to cover the land and water on an outline of the Earth. We put the two together as a part of our Earth Day bulletin board.
Now we are working together to make a Haiku Deck of our work! Haiku Deck is a great app for the iPad that allows us to create a presentation of our work. We will post our Haiku Decks here for you to see when they are complete. Stay tuned!

2 by 2 Digit Multiplication
I have discovered a new app for the iPad that I think is pretty neat. It is called ShowMe and it allows me to create a little lesson with sound that is recorded. I could send this lesson to all the kids in my class, their families and even post it here on the blog for them to refer to when they are working at home. Awesome!

Halloween Silhouette Art
This week we created Halloween silhouette art as seen on ThatArtistWoman's Blog. She has so many fantastic ideas and explains them all step by step. After I used the Artsonia app to load our artwork to our student art gallery, I created an Animoto video of our art work using the Animoto app on my iPhone. It was so easy to do, the only hiccup was that I couldn't rotate the photos so some of them are sideways :( Check out our video...

Publishing With Book Creator
This week i finished my frist story in daily 5. So I got to publish it on the ipad. The ipad is from a group that Mrs.Dent Scarcello is in. I got to publish it on a app on the ipad called "Book creater". Book Creater is where you get to type your book, when you are publishing you get to put pictures in your book. Its very cool and when you are done your book it goes strate into "ibooks" (if you have it) but if you dont have it, it just stays in book creater. Book creater is a great way to share your storys and to get your friends to read them. I love doing book creater and I can't wait to finish my other book in daily 5.

My Fantistic TWAS
This week at school I got taught a new game called Banana grams. Banana grams is a game that 4 or 5 people can play and righ now I’m going to teach you how to play.
Step 1: flip over all tiles and then pick 21 if 4 but if 5 15.
Step 2: say “split” and the game starts and you are trying to make as may word or long words.
Step 3: say you have a Q or a V you can say “ Dump” and put the Q or the V goes into the pile and pick 3 new tiles but you don’t want to say “dump” all the time or you will end up with to much tiles.
Step 4: when your tiles are all gone you say “Split” then you win
That is how you play Banana Grams

This week we did a french paper on Famous people. You had to cut Famous people out of magizene or on the computer. I cut people out of a magizene and i took Justin timberlake and Karry underwood.
But lots of people forgot to bring in pictures but Brook saved the day because she had a teen magizene so every buddy took pictures from brooks Book. anyway then you had to glue the pictures on the paper and write their names.
This week we started a plasic bag round up. Its when you have to collect all the plastic bags you can.
anyway me and Emily were parters so you have to take a bag and turn it inside out of no food or receipt or in the bag. Then you have to line them up in a row of 10 and Mrs. Dent scarcello puts a tally on the white borad. We have 2600 bags so far then round up ends on October 27 so bring all the bags you can. Adress #3950 raliegh St.

iClassroom {phoster}
As I continue to wrap up things from grade 2, I thought I would post our Phosters that were created by students at school. This is another easy to use app that the children used independently after one demo. Select a template, add your image, change the text and presto, a phoster!

Goodbye Friend, We Miss You!
Our friend Araya moved to Vancouver Island this month. We really miss her. We recorded these video clips on her last day using my iPhone. Alyssa P put the video together using the iMovie app. Hopefully Araya will watch this and remember us and maybe even call us on Skype!

iClassroom {Storykit}
We explore many ways to publish our writing in grade 2. A few students are working with Storykit, an app available at the app store. They write and edit their story in their writers notebook and then move to an iPad to publish it. Text is typed in and then illustrations can be drawn write in the app or a photo can be used. Once the story is complete, it is shared online and can be emailed. My students are highly motivated to publish their writing using Storykit.

iClassroom {WordFoto}
This weeks app of the week on iTunes is WordFoto. I heard of it through a fellow educator on Twitter just last week! One of our classmates is moving to B.C. today so I just tried it out and made a "we will miss you" WordFoto for her.
To create your WordFoto you simply pick a photo from your library or take a photo with your device, choose the words you want to apply and presto! A very cool mash-up of words and an image. There are even different styles to pick from. It took a matter of minutes!
Here is another sample using one of our butterflies just before it was released into the real world.

iClassroom ~ Taking it Outside
We took advantage of the mobility of our iClassroom and took our learning outside. We had caterpillars in our classroom and wanted to do some refelcting about what we had learned so far about caterpillars and what we were still wondering about.
First, the children wrote in their writer's notebooks using a T-chart. When their thoughts were clear they video recorded their "knows" and "wonders" using the iPods and iPads. Each iPod and iPad comes with a still and video camera and records HD video.
Once all the recordings were synced to each device, students (grade 2) were able to use the iMovie app to put the clips together into a movie!
Note: all photos have been taken and processed with my iPhone using the instagram app.

Our iClassroom
Thanks to the Manitoba Association of Multiage Educators (MAME), my students will be participating in an iPods and iPads in the Classroom Project. These tools will be incorporated into our daily learning activities and will help create information and communication technology (ICT) rich learning and teaching opportunities. My students and I will be blogging about our learning experiences with the iPods and iPads here and I will also blog about our experiences on the MAME blog at http://multiagemanitoba.org/.
In a classroom with devices such as iPods and iPads, contemporary methods of learning can be optimized. Through the use of these devices and some apps, students can be supported to:
•Use video clips, audio clips, and photos for gathering info
•Take video and photos; create slideshows using iPhoto and edit video using iMovie
•Record readings using Voicememo to track progress; engage in collaborative story telling, and record audiobooks for others to listen to
•Create original music
•Listen to and/or read ebooks, audiobooks, and Tumblebooks to go with the Belkin Rockstar
•Create books from scratch using Storybooks
•Brainstorm webs, mind maps, idea cards and organize, manage and summarize information.
•Use Puppetpals to write, create, publish puppet shows
•Illustrate stories with drawing pads•Use the calculator
•Use Math board to practice math facts
•Gather data and statistical analysis using Polldaddy
•Use the Notepad for reflection, self-assessment, brainstorming, and publishing
Please stay tuned to the MAME blog as well as this blog to read updates on what we’ve learned and experienced. Posts related to this project will be tagged iClassroom, click iClassroom in the tag cloud to see our posts.
